We are delighted to have found this ‘rural’ hotel which fulfils many of the criteria so difficult to find in southern Tenerife, namely being away from mass tourist areas, having a warm sunny climate and being near to restaurants, walks and the sea. The Fonda Central is a modernised 200 year old coaching inn with 11 rooms (three are suites) and is built around a traditional courtyard. Situated in the centre of the town of Adeje, it has its own restaurant with separate bar as well as a pavement café (see photo) - a great place for watching the world go by including the frequent cultural and religious events that process down the street.
The hotel has a TV room, reading room and small lounge in the entrance hall. The rooms are tastefully furnished and all have ensuite bathrooms, TV and telephone and mostly open on to the courtyard where there is also a covered terrace with seating (see opposite).
On the way to the coast is the well known Costa Adeje golf course where the 2003 Spanish Open was held and a little further is the nearest beach of La Caleta. Fifteen minutes walk along from la Caleta is a great deserted beach (see photo below).
Playa del Duque and Fañabé beaches on the Costa de Adeje are a fifteen minute drive from the hotel. Here you can enjoy a swim in the calm sea and practice any number of water sports and activities. Both beaches have car parks nearby. Back in Adeje, the famous Barranco del Infierno walk starts up the hill or for the less energetic the town is filled with interesting looking restaurants, cafés and shops. Prices quoted are per person sharing a double room including breakfast. Half board is an extra 25 euros per person. It is 25 minutes by car from Tenerife South airport and parking is on the side street at the back of the building. At least one member of staff speaks English.
